William Balmer was christened on 25 Dec 1836 at the church of St Mary the Virgin in Prescot, Lancashire. He was the son of William and Alice Balmer. His father's occupation was recorded as shoe maker, and the family's address as Prescot.
By June 6th 1841, the family were living in Yew Tree Place, Eccleston. William's father was a journeyman shoemaker.
By March 30th 1851, the family were still in Eccleston; William's father was still a journeyman shoemaker. William himself was an apprentice of some sort.
