After obtaining a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Toronto in 1915, he signed up with the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force the following year. He served as a lieutenant with the 63rd Depot Battery. C.F.A. He served for a year in France before being wounded October 27, 1918.[3]
