Floris Bancker is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A005690.

Floris Bancker was baptized March 29, 1741, in the Dutch Reformed ChurchNew York City, the son of Adriaan Bancker and Getrude Elizabeth (Van Taerling) Bancker. (Note: Older texts also spell his name Flores)

The Daughters of the American Revolution recognize Floris who achieved the rank of Major during the American Revolutionary War. DAR records indicate that Floris married Martha Young, whose mother was Martha La Due. DAR also records two children; William Bancker, who married Liner Ryan, and Elizabeth Bancker, who married William Van Vleck. [1]

Floris was a Captain of the 7th Company, 6th Regiment of Albany County militia, under Colonel Stephen J. Schuyler. On February 20, 1776, he received a commission as Second Major of the Regiment. In July and August, 1777, his Regiment of twenty-five officers and 243 men marched to Fort Edward and returned.

Floris was a member of a court-martial, held in Albany during May 21, 1777 to July 1, 1777. From 1778 to 1780, he was one of the commissioners of sequestration for the Middle District of Albany. Floris was a member of the Assembly from Albany in the second session from August 18, 1779 to July 2, 1780. He received, for his services $12 per day, for 45 days in 1779 and $21 per day for 47 days in 1780. Also, he was allowed at the latter session for traveling expenses to Albany and return $36 per day. The Assembly met in Kingston.

Before and during the Revolution, Floris seems to have made Albany his home. He was a merchant and a surveyor, and later laid out the town of "New City," now Lasingbursh, New York, where he lived for a time. He afterward lived in the town of Brunswick, where he died. His will, dated August 30, 1819 was proved April 9, 1821. He left besides two children, a widow, whose will was admitted to probate December 26, 1832.

Floris and his wife are buried in the Van Vleck-Bancker Cemetery Brunswick Rensselaer County New York. According to a 1961 newspaper article, The home of Major Flores Bancker, still standing on Gypsy Lane, in the Town of Brunswick, was built in 1789 and is now occupied by Mr. and Mrs- William A. Bleakley. Major Bancker's military record is in the hands of Gordon L. Banker, president of the Union National Bank of Troy.
