Moses Bancroft was born in Reading, Massachusetts, in 1723, the son of Thomas and Lydia (Emery) Bancroft.[1] He was christened the following day.
He married twice.[2] First, to Mary Wiley, on December 6, 1745, in Reading. They had 5 children:
They lived in Reading, before moving to Sutton, Massachusetts, by 1756. He married secondly to Elizabeth Lamson in 1758. They had 3 children, all born at Sutton:
He died in 1797, before November 7, when his will was proved. It names his wife Elisabeth, sons Moses, John, Benjamin and Joseph (executor), and daughters Elizabeth and Molly Bancroft. He is buried at the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Reading.[3]
MOSES BANCROFT (Thomas, Thomas, Thomas, Thomas, John), was born at Reading, Mass., Sept. 7, 1723. He was admitted to the church at Reading March 15, 1742. He moved to Sutton and settled in that part now Millbury. It is related of him that on one occasion, at a barn raising, with an iron bar in hand, he jumped from high beam to high beam, they being about ten feet apart. He married Dec. 6, 1745, Mary Wiley; she was b. 1721, the daughter of Timothy and Mary (Poole) Wiley. of Woodville. She was admitted to the church at Reading, Feb. 11, 1749. He m 2nd, Elizabeth Lamson, June 22, 1758.
