Roland of Siena was born about 1105 in Siena, Papal States. [1]
He was elected Pope on 7 September 1159 and crowned 20 September 1159 taking the name Alexander III. [1]
In 1163, during his time as a Pope, Notre Dame was put into the construction phase. He had the distinction of being the one who laid the foundation stone.[2][3][4][5]
He passed away August 30, 1181 in Civita Castellana, Papal States. [1][6][7][8]
