Biography

Ruth Bankert Gilmore

August 2, 1925 – January 3, 2016

Ruth Bankert Gilmore, 90, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Ridley Park, passed away Sunday evening at Homewood at Martinsburg.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Ross and Elizabeth (Vipond) Bankert. She married James Francis Gilmore on June 11, 1965, in Philadelphia, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 2008.

Surviving are a stepson, David of Maddison, Conn.; a stepdaughter, Constance Campisi of Thornton; a brother, Gerald of Altoona; two sisters: Geraldine Graybill (Glen) of Nappanee, Ind., and Elda Jean Burket (Floyd), with whom she had resided, of Hollidaysburg; four step-grandchildren: Christopher, Roy, Daniel and Heather; a step-great -granddaughter, Franchesca; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

She was predeceased in death by a brother, Robert Bankert, and a grandson, Dominic.

Ruth was a 1942 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and graduated from Drexel Institute of Technology in 1948. She retired in 1986 from the Administrative Department at Taylor Hospital, Philadelphia. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia. She enjoyed volunteering at the library, as well as solving Sudoku puzzles and anything with numbers.

Friends will be received from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, at First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., Pastor John Godissart officiating. Interment will be held at Presbyterian Cemetery, Hollidaysburg. Arrangements are by Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg.

The family requests that donations in memory of Ruth be made to First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, 201 S 21st St, Philadelphia, PA 19103; Ridley Park Public Library, 107 E Ward St, Ridley Park, PA 19078; or First United Methodist Church of Hollidaysburg, 801 Allegheny St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
