Edward came to Portland, Maine as a boy to become an apprentice in the watchmaking and jewelry trade and when his freedom was obtained in due course he entered into business for himself in Portland.
He died on September 17, 1892, at the U. S. Marine Hospital, Portland, Maine, while on a visit to his eldest son. He lived a long life of 80 years, and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Portland, Maine.
