Chairman and Managing Director of Williamson Cliff, Stamford, until retirement in 1953, Mr Percy Keech Banks of Croyland, Tinwell Road, Stamford has died in St. George’s hospital, Stamford, aged 88.
Mr Banks died from pneumonia after a very brief illness.
Born at Cranwell, he attended Sleaford Grammar School. He was basically a farmer and very much enjoyed managing the farm connected with the Stamford brick works, Little Casterton Road.
He continued as chairman of the company for some time after 1953. He was a County councillor fir many years with interest in the agricultural aspect.
Mr Banks was a life deacon of Stamford Congregational Church (now United Reformed Church), Star Lane, and was for 20 years church secretary.
In his younger days Mr Banks was a very keen tennis player and he was founder of the Rock Club, Stamford. He was captain of the club in his playing days and had been a vice president for many years. He also enjoyed golf, being a member of the Luffenham Heath club.
Mr Banks was also an enthusiastic gardener.
He leaves the widow Emeline Lizzie, whom he married at Stamford Star Lane Church on January 1, 1920. His daughter is Mrs Margaret Elizabeth Eckersley, Cherry Hill, Ruxley Heights, Claygate, Surrey and his son Mr Alec John Frederick Banks. He also leaves grandchildren John Stephen Banks and Shelagh Elizabeth Banks.
The funeral at Star Lane was conducted by the Rev. A. O Bourne and the Rev. L. A. Wide of Kettering and the organist was Mr T.D. Ross.
Mourners were The Widow, Mr and Mrs A.J.F Banks of Carlby (son and daughter in law), Mr and Mrs B . J. Eckersley, Claygate (son in law and daughter),Mr J. S. Banks Bristol and Miss S. E. Banks, Cambridge (grand children); Mrs Freda Siddons, Stamford (sister in law) and Mr & Mrs M. W. Siddons Peterborough, Mr and Mrs George Ekins (nephews and nieces).
