Biography

1776 Project
Soldier Lary Bankston served with Wilkes County Militia, Georgia Militia during the American Revolution.

Received a Bounty Land Grant in Georgia. Lawrence Bankston was born about 1754 to Peter Bankston and Priscilla (?). [1] Lawrence Bankston signed his name on a land receipt but signed with an X on his will.. [2]

Circa 1774 Lawrence Bankston II and Nancy Anne (aka Delphia Nancy) Henderson married. [3]

  • Circa 1782 -- Lawrence Bankston Jr. and Nancy Henderson Bankston lived in Wilkes county, Georgia. They were members of the Sardis Baptist Church. [7] [8]
  • March 31, 1784 -- Lawrence received his first land grant of 28.5 acres on Kettle Creek. [9]
  • 1784 -- received a land grant of 200 acres in Washington county, Georgia. [10]
  • 1785 -- received a land grant of 200 acres in Wilkes county, Georgia. [11]
  • November 8, 1794 -- received 200 acres on Kettle Creek. [12]
  • October 27, 1795; registered February 12, 1796 -- William Lea sold 94 acres of land on Kettle Creek to Lawrence Bankston for £10. [13]
  • 1806 -- received 200 acres of land on Kettle Creek. [14]
  • Circa 1834 -- owned at least three African slaves: Jordan, a man; Hannah, a woman; and Aggy, a girl. [15]

Death

November 15, 1844 -- Lawrence Bankston, Jr. died, age 90. [16] [17]

Bankston-582 and Bankston-171 appear to represent the same person because: same name and death dates

Lawrence’s DAR Patriot Service was pulled because the DAR stopped using MCCall Tidwell, after I received DAR status. Donald Clarke, a BANKSTON cousin and historian let me know that Wilkes County, Ga was the only County to have a record of those Rev War Soldiers who were not lucky drawers in the land lottery available to draw. Thanks to Don Clarke, a phone call to DAR in the AM, by afternoon, Lawrence Bankston was successfully reinstated. A copy of the documentation is provided with my book, The Spirit in the South, Author House 2008.

Lawrence BANKSTON b. 1754 NC was the son of Peter BANKSTON b. Ca 1729-1804 and Priscilla, whose last name is unknown.

Peter BANKSTON was the son of Lawrence BANKSTON b. 1704 PA d. bef. 1770 NC and Rebecca Hendricks b. 1806, PA d. aft 1744. NC. Lawrence Bankston, Sr. Was the son of Andrew BANKSON, Jr. (NO T) b. PA d. PA and Gertrude Lars Boore. Andrew BANKSON Jr. (NO T), b. PA was the son of Immigrant Anders BENGTSSON b. Sweden, d. Drowning and Gertrude RAMBO. (Do not do junk genealogy and give Anders parents, he was the son of BENGT whose last name is unknown. Gertrude RAMBO was the daughter of Peter Gunnarson RAMBO b. 1612 Hisingen, near Gothenburg, Sweden and Brita Mattsdotter (Her parents are also unknown… she may have been a servant girl who accompanied a family to New Sweden) Peter emigrated to New Sweden in 1640 on the ship Kalmar Nyckel and married Brita in April 1647.
