Biography

Henry "Harry" Banaster of the Bank in Bretherton, Lancashire (b. c. 1525, age 30 in 1555; living 1567),[1] was the son and heir (s. & h.) of:

  • William Banester of the Bank (b. c. 1500 - d. 1555),[1][2] s. & h of:[3]
Richard Banester (b. c. 1482 - d. 1548),[1] & Margaret, dau. of Nicholas Rigmayden.[3]
  • and Helen Halsall, dau. of:[3]
Sir Henry Halsall of Halsall, Lancashire & Margaret, dau. of James Stanley.[4]

He's called "Harry," in Vis. of Lancs., 1533.[3] His family surname is variously recorded as:

Marriage

Visitation (1567), asserts that Henry married twice, with the second being an unknown woman. It names his first wife as Margaret Warmeton of Blainsco, Lancashire,[7] but Visitation (1613), identifies her as, Margaret Worthington of Blanscoe, Lancashire.[8]

children

Margaret Worthington appears to be the mother of all of Henry's five children, including three sons and two daughters. Their eldest son had no children, and it was their second son William, who succeeded as son and heir. Willliam also starts the Banaster pedigree in Vis. of Lancs., 1664/5.[5]

  • 1. Adam (dsp)[7]
m. (abt. 1555 or later) Dorothy, dau. of Hugh Anderton.[1][9]
  • 2. (s. & h.) William of the Bank.[7]
  • 3. Henry[7]
m. Henry Butler of Rawcliffe, Lancs. (d. 1620).[10]
m. Thomas Ecclestone.[7]

Notes

  • profile previously conflated as >> John Henry Bannister born about 1530... He passed away about 1567. [11] LNAB needs to be updated...
  • need sources to verify son Adam's poss. marriage to Dorothy Anderton. It was arranged in c. 1555, but need to find out if Adam died before it went through.
