Thomas Bannister was born at Fitzroy 1879, mother Kate JOYCE, father Henry Gleeson[1].
Thomas Bannister is an Anzac who served in the Boer War.
Thomas Bannister, iron founder at North Fitzroy, Labourer at Emu Flats, joined the 4th Victorian Imperial Bushmen/Australian Imperial Regiment (A.I.R.) (regimental number 51) and sailed from Port Melbourne on the "Victorian" on 1 May 1900 for South Africa.[2][3] He joined the 2nd Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse in January 1902 (Regimental number 560).[4][5]
On the 18th August 1914 Thomas joined the 4th Light Horse Regiment of the AIF ( Regimental number 77). He was promoted to Corporal and sailed to Alexandria and while at camp at Gaba Tepe he fractured his femur which led to his return to Australia and discharge in April 1916.[6][7]
