Johann Bantes migrated from Germany to United States of America.

Emigrated from Prussia (Germany) arriving at Port of New York on 26 December 1853 aboard the ship Robert Parker. Johann's wife and children immigrated later, arriving on 5 July 1855 aboard the ship Elise. They were among the early settlers of Johnsburg (est. August 1841), McHenry County, Illinois.

Johann Bantes had 9 siblings, all of them died as infants or at a very young age, except for possibly a brother Mathias.

Johann and Maria were the parents of six known children, in birth order; Maria Elisabeth (Johann Nett), Gertrud (Jacob Buhler), Maria (August Fisher), Anna Maria "Emma" (Francis Oscar Boericke), Catharina and Margaretha
