was born 12 February 1876 in Richland Township, Chickasaw, Iowa.[1][2][3]

7 Jun 1900 - "Double Date - Messrs Roy Barber and Alvan Whitman accompanied by Misses Alice Cory and Laura Warner, attended graduating exercises at Nashua Friday evening. They report them as very nice."[9]

Alice Cory and Roy (aka Royal) Barber married 20 September 1900 in New Hampton, Chickasaw, Iowa [10] [11][12]

Marriage Announcement
"Mr. Roy Barber, an industrious young farmer from near Republic, and Miss Alice Cory, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Cory, living a mile and a half east of Bradford, were married at New Hampton last Thursday, Sept. 20. The bride is one of Chickasaw county's successful school teachers. The young couple will go to housekeeping on a farm near Republic. The REPORTER extends congratulations."[13]

They had a son, Ralph Henry Barber, in 1902[14]

23 May 1901 - "Runaway Team -- Roy Barber's team took a lively run Sunday and made things pretty lively for a while, but only a broken buggy was the result." [15]

8 Apr 1915 - "Roy Barber on the list of satisfied purchasers of Overlanders "On Monday, March 1, the first day following the biggest month so far experienced by the Overland Company, 302 cars, valued at $_ were shipped to actual purchasers besides those shipped the dealers as stock cars..."[19]

After their marriage, Roy and Alice started farming on his father's farm near Republic [17]
and later bought a 140 acre farm in Sections 9 & 4 in Bradford Township.[22]

When Roy registered for the draft, he was a married, self-employed farmer.
He signed his name "Roy Laurin Barber ."[23]

1926 Move to Fredericka, Iowa
About 1926, having disposed of their farm, they moved to Frederika, Iowa, where Roy was engaged in business and operated a gasoline truck for the N.R. Ambrose Oil Co of Tripoli. [3]

Alice's niece, Florence Cory, lived with them in 1925 and 1930 and various other times through the years.

Roy was elected Mayor of Frederika, year unknown.
24 Mar 1932 - "All Fredericka officials now serving are running for re-election: Roy Barber, Mayor..."[26]

After suffering a heart attack in 1937, there was an outpouring of support from friends and family:

14 Apr 1937 - "The many friends of ROY BARBER of Frederika will be sorry to learn that he has been quite ill the past two weeks with a severe attack of heart trouble, and is still confined to his bed." [27]
4 Aug 1937 - "Mr. and Mrs. Bert Jensen and family, Mesdames Mary Hunt and N. Lovering visited Sunday at the Roy Barber home at Frederika." [28]
8 Dec 1937 - "Bradford - Mrs. Hunt accompanied her son, Bert Jensen and wife to Frederika Sunday to visit at the Roy Barber home. They report that Mr. Barber, who has been ill for several months, is able to be up and around the house a few hours each day."[29]

Roy and Alice sold their home and moved in with son Ralph and Helen in Waterloo. In May 1938, Roy took Alice to stay with her sister, Fay Perrin, near New Hartford, until she was hospitalized in June. She died 5 September 1938 in Independence, Washington Township, Buchanan, Iowa. [30]

Roy Barber, 64, died 17 April 1940 at the Earl Edson home near Republic, Richland Township, Chickasaw, Iowa; [1]burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua, Chickasaw County, Iowa.[2]

Former Frederika Man Dies at Nashua[31]

Roy Barber of Nashua and former mayor of Frederika, died at the Earl Edson home east of Nashua early Wednesday morning. Funeral services were held at the Lundt Funeral Home in Nashua and burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery here.
Mr. Barber was born on a farm east of Nashua and spent many years of his life farming there. Later he went to Frederika where he was engaged in business and operated a gasoline truck for the N.R. Ambrose Oil Co of Tripoli. He retired from active work about three years ago when he suffered a heart attack. He was preceded in death by his wife 7 [5] September 1938. Surviving are a son, Ralph, of Cedar Falls, four grandchildren and a brother, Henry, of Nashua.

Re: Given name
The name Roy appears to be correct, the middle name is uncertain.
His name has been spelled "Royal" on marriage records[12] and the 1930 census.[25]
His signature on the 1918 WW I draft registration was "Roy Laurin Barber."[23]
Iowa death certificate says "Roy Loren Barber;" informant son Ralph.[1]

In November 1941, there was a "Notice of Hearing on Application for Order to Sell Real Estate" filed in Chickasaw District Court. The real estate was in Sections 4 & 9 in Bradford Township, formerly the Roy Barber farm until about 1925. [33]
