Biography

Surname

There are several confusing things about George Barber. First of all his surname is found spelled Barber and Barbour. The selection of spelling was the whimsy of different court clerks and census takers.

Disclaimer

Another confusing item is the fact there were two men named George Barber born in Kentucky, one in 1853 and the other in 1855. Both of them had a wife named Sarah. The "other" George Barber (born 1853) resided in Bath and Fleming County, Kentucky. He used the name G.W. Barber and George William Barber. His wife was Sarah Davis. We know they are not the same person because George William Barber and his wife were alive in 1910 and residing in Bath County, Kentucky and they were still living there in 1920. [1] [2] Regrettably some researchers have created havoc by combining the two different families. So this is a warning, be careful when connecting your family tree to George Barber.

The relationship to his mother Amanda has been changed to confident awaiting further matches from DNA testing. :)
I understand that your three matching DNA test support your relationships up to your most recent common ancestors, George Barber and Sarah Gilkey. But that matching group doesn't seem to support George Barber's relationship to his mother Amanda Bellomy. Shouldn't his relationship to his mother on this page be changed to 'confident'?
