William Barber served in the United States Civil War.

William Barber was born 23 May 1839 in Victory, New York to Philo Barber and Pheba Scouting. He served in the U.S. Civil War from 1862 to 1864. William was married to Jean. He died 19 December 1918 in New York and is buried at Southside Cemetery in Red Creek, New York.[1]

Military

William Barber enlisted in the U.S. Civil War at Wolcott, New York as a Private on 11 August 1862 and mustered in on 8 September 1862. He was in Co. A of the New York 9th Heavy Artillery. William was discharged from the (Army) hospital on 7 June 1864 and returned home to Wolcott, New York.[2]

William had a brother, George D. Barber, who also fought in the New York 9th Heavy Artillery, Co. A. They enlisted together at Wolcott, New York. George was discharged 20 June 1863 because of wounds he received when his sergeant accidentally shot him.[2]
