John was a Friend (Quaker)

Biography

John was born in 1654.

John Barber was cited at Wetherby Quarter Sessions in January 1683 for having attended a Quaker meeting at Henry Thompson’s house on 28 December 1682.

He was committed by order of the justices at Skipton Quarter Sessions to York Castle for being at a Quaker meeting at Weston, and he remained imprisoned for 4 months in 1683.

Shoemaker.

He removed to Beckwithshaw, Yorkshire by 1687.

He held Quaker meetings at his house in Beckwithshaw in 1689.

John Barber removed to Hay-a-Park near Knaresborough in 1695, where he died in 1713. His death on 10 February 1713, and burial on 13 February at Scotton Friends Butial Ground, was recorded by Knaresborough Quaker Monthly Meeting, Yorkshire.[1]
