Biography

Antonia (or Anna) was born about 1815-16 ^[1] to Antonino Barbera and Elisabetta Russo ^[2]. In 1839 at age 23, she married 25-year-old Giacchino Gioia ^[3], and they had several children. She died in 1872 at age 56 ^[4].

Research Notes

Her marriage record names her Antonia; her death record says Anna. Her surname is recorded as 'Varvera' in the 1873 marriage record for daughter Rosalia. This may be a mangled version of Barbera.
