Biography

Vincenzo was born in 1836 to Giuseppe Barbera, a farmer, and Leonarda Reina ^[1]. In 1858 at age 22, he married 21-year old Maria Russo ^[2]. They buried their first 8 children; the 9th child survived to maturity. Maria must have died within 6 years of this last child, as Vincenzo remarried in 1883 to the widow Crocifissa Montalbano ^[3]. He died 5 years later in 1888 at age 52. We don't know of any children from this second marriage.

Per his first marriage record, Vincenzo was a peasant farmer. His other marriage record and his death record describe him simply as a laborer.
