Calogero was born in 1844 and died between 1851 and April 1854. He was the son of Nunzio Barbera and Anna Maria Campo. He was the last of a long string of non-surviving children born to Anna Maria Campo. His father remarried within 2 years of his birth.
Calogero was named for his maternal grandfather, Calogero Campo.
