Gaspare was born about 1776 to Pasquale Barbera and Anna Amodeo. He married Vita Montelione in 1799 and they had several children. Gaspare died at age 70 in July 1837 at what was the height of a cholera epidemic.
This branch of the Barberas was apparently well-educated and held in esteem, as evidenced by the number of his children referred to as Don/Donna and Signore/Signora. They also have a high number of people working as civil workers and there's a physician.
