Biography

Giuseppa was born in 1851 to Andrea Barbera, a greengrocer, and Liboria Caccioppo ^[1]. In 1873 at age 21, she married 28-year-old Francesco Giambalvo, middle class, and they had 13 children, at least 8 of whom died in childhood.

Research Notes

Giuseppa's birth record was made using the surname Troina rather than Barbera. Her baptism record, however, names her father as Andrea Traina Barbera. Traina is a known surname in this town, but it is not clear how it is connected to Andrea Barbera.
