DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

The sources connecting Barbarie with his daughter are scanty and need to be fleshed out. Why? 1) Marriages between colonial French and colonial British in pre-1750 North America seem quite unlikely, because of the numerous wars fought in this area between the two powers; 2) No explanation is offered for the difference between this lady's maiden name and the name of her purported father; 3) attention has already been brought on the scarcity of Europeans in Michigan in 1700, so it is unlikely that she was born there. Pontiac, Michigan was not even founded until 1818,

Furthermore, the sources are dodgy at best. Passenger records from Europe to North America would not connect a passenger father with a daughter born 1,000's of miles away in what is now Michigan. "New York Genealogical Records" : which NY Genealogical Records? Which record, volume, and page?
