The father (I.e. Uel) was a farmer and followed that calling in his native state until about I845, then came to this county to pass the remainder of his life. From the time of his arrival here he divided his time between farming and shoemaking until his death in 1853. He and his wife were the parents of three sons and one daughter, all now dead. Their son Searles, after receiving a common-school education in his native state, learned the trade of a shoemaker and worked at it there until 1840. [1] [2]
