Hilda was born Hilda Constance Barclay on the 9th of January, 1898, in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia, the 1st of 6 children of Jim and Agnes (Johnston) Barclay.^[1]

At 28, on the 18th of February, 1926, she was the registered Matron of the Merriwa District Hospital, Merriwa, New South Wales, Australia.^[2]

At 28, in 1926, she married William Richmond Topfer in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, and they had 1 child.^[3]

She and William moved between quite a number of addresses in New South Wales:^[4]
