Robert Gurney Barclay was the son of Gurney Barclay and Mary Elizabeth Freshfield. He was born in Tavistock Square, London on 27 January 1819 and baptised at the Old Church, St Pancras, London on 5 May 1820.[1]
Robert married Catherine Henrietta Wyvill on Sept. 21, 1840 at the parish church of Finghall, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom. The parish register describes him as a bachelor of Ewhurst Surrey, son of Gurney Barclay; and her as a spinster of Constable Burton, Yorkshire, daughter of Marmaduke Wyvill.[2][3] The wedding notice was posted on Sept. 26, 1840 in the Yorkshire Gazette.
The 1881 census lists Robert and his wife (forenames given as Katherine H) in Westminster, London. It gives his age as 62, his birthplace as Tavistock Square, London, and his occupation as bank manager.[4]
Robert's death was registered in Westminster, London in the third quarter of 1886.[5] Probate was granted on his estate on 16 September 1886, with his death date recorded as 9 August 1886.[6]
