Mary Barcus is a part of US Black heritage.

Mary was born about 1848 in New Jersey.

She was the daughter of Jane and Civil War veteran Ezekiel L. Barcus of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the first regiment in the United States made up entirely of enlisted men of color.
