John Barcus is a part of US Black heritage.

John was born about 1859 in New Jersey.

He was the son of Jane and Civil War veteran Ezekiel Barcus of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the first regiment in the United States made up entirely of enlisted men of color.
