Jean Bard was the first Bard to immigrate to the New World from France. He is the common ancestor to almost all French Bards in North America. He was born about 1681 in Gardegan, Guyenne, Kingdom of France.[1] He was the son of Guillaume Bard and Catherine Bechet.[1]

He was a miller.[1]

Marie Josephe Talon married Jean Barde on 13 Oct 1721 in Montmagny (St-Thomas)[2][3]

They had the following children (note that they get variously recorded under the names Bard, Barde, Jeanbard, Jambard):

  4. Augustin Thomas Bard b. 21 Dec 1729
  5. Louis Bard b. 1 May 1732; married Marie Lamarre 23 Nov 1751
  6. Marie Joseph Bard (m) b. 1 Jul 1734; Joseph Marie married Marie Judith Dubé 18 Sept 1752
  7. Guillaume Noël Barde b. 14 Oct 1736; buried 28 Sept 1737 Montmagny
  8. Guillaume Augustin Barde b. 6 Sept 1738; married Catherine Guion (Guyon) 9 Nov 1761
  9. François Arsène Bard, b. 26 Jun 1741; moved to France and married there
  10. Ursule Bard b. 13 Jan 1743; married Jean Baptiste Durand 27 Oct 1766
  11. boy twin to Ursule, buried 15 Jan 1743
  12. Marie Geneviève Bard b. 21 Aug 1748; married Jean Baptiste Squerre dit Labé 13 Aug 1770[4]

He died in December 27, 1769 in St-Marie-de-Beauce, Quebec.[1] and was buried there on the 30th[5], he record giving him an estimated 100 years of age.
