In 1880, age 3, D. is the son of W.N. and L. Barden living in Buena Vista township, Portage county, Wisconsin. His father is a farmer, and all were born in Wisconsin.[4]
In 1900, age 23, born August 1876, single, he is working as farm labor and living with his father and brother. His father, William, 43, born December 1856, is widowed and owns the farm with a mortgage. His brother Arthur, age 11, born December 1888, attends school.[5]
In 1910, at age 33, he farms on a rented farm in Springwater township, Waushara county. Others in his household were: [6]

In 1930, at age 54, he farms the land he owns, valued at $1700, in Dayton township, Waupaca county. He was not a veteran. Others in his household were: [8]

In 1940, age 63, he farms the land he owns in Dayton township valued at $600 and the same home as in 1935. He had a 7th grade education. With him are: [9]

In 1950, 73, is still farming. With him live his wife, Jessie, and his single children Nelson (also farming) and Ruby (doing housework). [10]
