Quite a gloom was cast over the little district of Spring Valley, near Goulburn, when the melancholy news of the death of Mr. Edwin Barden, who passed away on Tuesday, May 25, became known. The deceased gentleman had been in failing health for some time, although his death was somewhat unexpected. He had been singularly robust, and had done work on the land that will remain as a memento of his energy and enterprise. Australia cannot have too many men like the deceased, who was of the grand old pioneer type, He was 68 years of age. He was born at Parramatta, and his early days were spent with his parents at Tarago. He married Miss Agnes Byrne, daughter of the well-known late Mr. John Byrne, and went to live at Spring Valley, where he resided up to the time of his death. His charity and benevolence were household words, and by his kindly manner and sterling worth he made many friends. His loss will be keenly felt. He was received into the Church some nine years ago, and was a staunch and fervent Catholic, taking part in all matters connected with the Church. He was laid to rest in the Spring Valley Cemetery, in sight of his home, the Rev. Father Reidy officiating at the grave. Deceased leaves a sorrowing widow, one son, five daughters, and several grandchildren to mourn their loss, — R.I. P.
