Laura Barfield was born about 1873 to Benjamin O. Barfield (1849 - 1890) and Mary E (McMahon) Barfield.
She is listed in the United States Census of 1880 as living in the house hold of her grandfather, Marshall McMahan. and her grandmother, Rosanna McMahan.[1]
