When John Henry Barger was born on November 11, 1882, in Ashland, Mississippi, his father, James Melvin Barger, was 22 and his mother, Sarah Ann Balch, was 22. He married Effie Payne in 1902 in Oklahoma. They had four children in 10 years. John Henry Barger retired from Santa Fe Railroad. He died on January 23, 1978, in Cleburne, Texas, at the age of 95, and was buried there.
