" The Quebec, Genealogical Dictionary of Canadian Families (Tanguay Collection), 1608-1890 Genealogical Dictionary of Canadian Families from the Foundation of the Colony to the Present Day, or the "Tanguay Collection", is the premier genealogical dictionary of French-Canadian families. This large, seven-volume collection was published by the French-Canadian priest and genealogist Father Cyprien Tanguay from 1871 to 1890. Although the dictionary does contain numerious errors and occasional speculations, it has proven to be a fundamental reference work and one of the most comprehensive resources for French-Canadian genealogy. " [2]

This collection is a valued treasured resource. However, some transcribers who later helped were not fluent in the French language of the period , relied on written manuscripts that relied on verbal references and translated previous work without sourcing. The records were written over a hundred years later and continue to be subject to confirmation and correction. Corrections can be sent to http://bibnum2.banq.qc.ca/bna/dicoGenealogie/. Note: His wife would have kept her given name. French women generally kept their given surname upon marriage during this period of time. Their children kept their father's surname. [3][4]

Note: " Louis Baribeau was born in 1660 in France. He died in 1748 in St.Anne de La Parade, Champlain, PQ. He was a voyageur and traveled west to the land of the Outaouais and to Detroit. He was married to Marie Madeline Feuillon (daughter of Michel Feuillon and Louise Bercier) on 10 Feb 1687 in St.Francois-Xavier, Batiscan, PQ." [5]

I added sources and biography to Louis. I don't speak French, so if someone can add the translation for me, much appreciated. This is my first attempt at adding for this project. I hope I didn't screw up. Please let me know.
