Biography

Martha was a widow at the time of her marriage to Samuel Bloss. She was not the daughter of Nathan Barker and Bethiah Bodwell of Andover. (Their daughter Martha married Joseph Parker).

Three things about this Martha Barker. One, if she was truly born "about 1714", then when she married Samuel Bloss in 1727, Martha would have only been about age 13. Two, the book of Early Connecticut Marriages, page 35 for the Killingly-Putnam records, says Martha was a widow of a Mr. Barker when she married Samuel Bloss in 1727.Third, on page 4 of the book "Bloss Genealogy - Edmund and Mary Bloss Family" published in 1959 says Martha Barker was a widow who married Samuel Bloss was the daughter of Isaac Baker and mother unknown. These three items tend to push her birth year closer to 1700, and, question her parentage.
