Biography

Amelia Barker was born in 1848 in Burnham-on-Crouch, Essex, England to James Barker and Susan (Whiting) Barker. Her birth was registered in Maldon, Essex in the first quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Whiting.[1]

In 1851 Amelia Barker (age 3, Scholar) lived in Burnham with her father James (48, Ag Lab), mother Susan (38, Ag Lab Wife), and six siblings: James (17, Ag Lab), Susan (16, Servant), George (13, Scholar), Joseph (10, Scholar), John (7, Scholar), and Hannah (0), as well as lodger William Cook (28, Ag Lab) and cousin John Bearman (11, Ag Lab).[2]

In 1861 Amelia Darker [Barker] (age 12) lived at Ostend Hill in Burnham with her father James (57, Agricultural Labourer), mother Susan (46), brother Geo (23, Agricultural Labourer), and visitor Ann Christmas (5).[3]

In 1871 Amelia Burnham (age 23, Cook) lived in Clapham, Surrey in the household of her employer John Kemp-Welsh.[4]
