Biography

Eleanor Barker (1898-?) was born in Darwen, Lancashire in 1898. She is the daughter of William Barker and Ellen Merrick. ^[1]

They lived in Bedford Street, Darwen in 1901 ^[2] and in Westwell Street, Darwen in 1911 when she had left school and was employed as a "cotton reacher-in" ^[3]

I suspect (no proof yet) that she had a daughter Elsie in 1920 when the family had moved and were living just over the border in Earby, West Yorkshire.
In the 1939 register, Eleanor is still single, living with her parents, her younger sister Elsie and a second Elsie born in 1920. Eleanor was employed as a charwoman. ^[4]
