Biography

Sarah Barker (1822-1867) was born in Spark Bridge, Lancashire about September 1822. She was the daughter of the forgeman there, William Barker and Jane Jackson. She was christened in the chapelry of Egton cum Newland (also known as Penny Bridge Chapel) on the 15th September 1822. ^[1]

Like several of her siblings she left home and went south to Liverpool where several of her elder siblings were already settled. In 1841 she was living in the household of her elder sister, Jane, in Upper Wolfe Street, Toxteth Park along with her twin brothers. ^[2]

The move wasn't permanent though and she moved back to Backbarrow in Colton parish, Lancashire in the 1840s which is where her parents then lived. She married a bobbin turner called Thomas Everett at Colton parish church on the 6th December 1845. ^[3]

The couple settled in Low Force Forge in Satterthwaite where the bobbin mill where Thomas was employed was sited and they had 3 daughters within the next 5 years. ^[4]

Thomas died in 1852 and Sarah and the 3 girls moved back to Colton parish. She was employed as a housekeeper in 1861 there ^[5] but died in Backbarrow of haemoptysis (likely T.B.) on the 10th July 1867. ^[6]

She was buried in Haverthwaite churchyard on the 14th July 1867. ^{[7] [8]}
