Mary Ann was born on May 13, 1824 and baptised at St. Paul, Deptford, London, England on June 6, 1824. Her father was noted on the record as Edward Parker Barker and her mother's name was Mary. [1] She was the daughter of Edward Barker and Mary Redwood.
The family are listed in the 1851 census, at Stepney, when Mary was a 6 year old child.[2]
Mary married Henry Brazier at St. Georges in the East, Stepney, on October 9, 1843. They had a daughter Mary Ann in October 1844, who married Thomas Reeves in 1861. It appears that Mary left her husband Henry Brazier shortly after their daughter was born as her daughter's marriage certificate states that her mother is 'unknown'.
She remarried to William Curtis in 1846, at Stepney, stating that she was widowed but there is no death record for Henry Brazier and according to his daughter's marriage certificate he was living and working as a ships captain in 1861. [3]
The 1861 census shows Mary's parents still living in Stepney and her daughter living with them, also her daughter's husband,
She was already married to Thomas Reeves at the age of 16, but Mary is not mentioned.[4]
