"William Ira Barker is the son of William M. Barker and Katherine Angeline Taylor. He was born 22 May 1864 in Fayette County, Alabama. William married Millie Alice Tucker 1 December 1886 in Fayette County. His step-father - Elias Chaffin performed the ceremony. Millie Alice was born 10 September 1865 in Marion County, Alabama. Her parents were James R. and Emoline Tucker. William Ira was a schoolteacher. The School Board of Fayette County granted him a certificate on 2 July 1887, authorizing him to teach third grade subjects in Fayette County, Alabama. He also farmed, operated a small grocery store, and did carpenter work, including making coffins. He was also a Minister of the Gospel.
