Biography
Harriott, daughter of Matthew and Mary Barker, was baptised at Great Dunham on 25 March 1847.[1] She married Absalom Wheeler in Lambton, Canada West (Ontario), in 1866.[2][3]
She passed away about 1938. [4]
Research Notes
Her parents would have been Matthew Barker and Mary Softley who were married at Great Dunham in 1833.[5]
The other children of Matthew and Mary baptised at Great Dunham were:
- Ann 1833
- Susannah 1835
- Samuel 1837
- Sarah Ann 1839
- William Softly 1841
- John Softly 1843
- Emma Eve 1845
At the 1841 census Matthew and Mary were living in Great Dunham with the five children born by that data, and Ann Barker aged 65, presumably Matthew's mother. The record shows that they were all born in Norfolk (except that the record for Mary is blank).[6]
Mary Softly was probably the daughter of John and Priscilla who was baptised at Gayton (about seven miles from Great Dunham) in 1814.[7] John Softly married Priscilla Juby at Gayton in 1803.[8]
It seems clear that William Matthew Barker, who was born in Staffordshire, and Mary Bayes were not the parents of Harriet and her siblings.
