Emily Barker was born in 1853 in Theale, Berkshire, England to Thomas Barker and Elizabeth (Hutchins) Barker. Her birth was registered in Bradfield, Berkshire in the first quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Hutchins.[1]
In 1861 Emily Barker (age 9, Scholar) lived at Bath Road in Tilehurst, Berkshire with her father Thomas (37, Agricultural Labourer), mother Elizabeth (38, Washerwoman), and four siblings: George (16, Agricultural Labourer), Henry (14, Assistant Releving Officer), Mary (12, Scholar), and Albert (0).[2]
In 1871 Emily Barker (age 19, Nursemaid) lived in St George Hanover Square, London as a servant in the household of Thomas B Beckwith.[3]
Emily Barker (under age, daughter of Thomas, a Labourer) and Charles Hurst (of full age, Paper Maker, son of Charles) were married by Banns on 13 Jan 1872 at Holy Trinity in Theale - the witnesses were Edward Barker & Maria Barker.[4] The marriage was registered in Bradfield in the first quarter of the year.[5]
In 1881 Emily Hurst (age 28, Paper Maker's Wife) lived in Hayton, Cumberland with her husband Charles H (33, Paper Maker Machine Man) and four children: Arthur C (7), Alice E (5), Ernest H (4), and George A (1).[6]
In 1891 Emily Hurst (age 38) lived at Neds Town in Hayton with her husband Charles (43, Paper Maker) and eight children: Arthur (17, Paper Maker), Alice (15), Ernest (14), George (10), Mary (8), Fanny (6), Phillip (3), and Agnes (2).[7]
In 1901 Emily Hurst (age 48) lived at Regent Terrace in Carlisle Botchergate, Cumberland with her husband Charles H (52, Grocer Shopkeeper) and seven children: Arthur C (27, Lithographic Calender Machine Minder), Alice E (25, Grocers Shop Assistant), George A (21, Solicitors Clerk), Mary E (19, Grocers Shop Assistant), Fanny J (17, Draper's Shop Assistant), Philip J (15, Greengrocers Shop Assistant), and Agnes (11).[8]
In 1911 Emily Hurst (age 57) lived in Carlisle with her husband Charles Halfords Hurst (60, Retail Grocer & Confectioner) and two daughters: Mary Ethel (28, Confectionery Assistant) and Agnes (21, Confectionery Assistant).[9]
Emily Hurst passed away in 1916, aged 65 years. Her death was registered in Carlisle in the last quarter of the year.[10]
