Samuel was born before 1648. He passed away in 1720. [1]
On March 27, 1685 a grant was made by William Penn of 200 acres of land and purchased by Samuel Barker. It was located in what is now New Castle Co., DE and was called Barker's Bridge. Here the homestead was built and remained in the family until the death of William Barker, a great grandson of Samuel, in 1840.
Samuel was the father of Anna, Joseph, Mary, and Daniel. His wife remains unknown.
There is much confusion in many trees and family websites as to the actual baptism date. Most of it is probably due to people not understanding the issue of the year change (Feb 1647 is immediately followed by March 1648 for example). So when the church register says "22 Feb 1648 Samuel, s. of John Barker bap." it is likely that some people incorrectly "corrected" the year to 1647. There are also instances where people saw the baptism date written as 2/22/1648 and also "corrected" it to April -- since April was the second month of 1648.
