James Barkley was born[1] Apr 29, 1799, in[2] Orange Co., New York. He was the son[3][4] of James and Mary (unknown maiden name) Barkley.
James was apparently a farmer, and lived[5][6][7][8][9] in the area between Keuka and Seneca Lakes in the Finger Lakes region of New York state his entire life.
James married first[10][11][12][13] about 1817 (estimated from the birth date of son Abram Barkley,) Cornelia Van Gorder.
James married second[14] about 1867 (guess), Matilda Feagles. See her profile for the derivation of her maiden name.
James died Oct 15, 1875, and is buried[15] in the Bradford Cemetery, Bradford, New York. His headstone is grouped[16] with the headstones of his two wives.
James and Cornelia had eight children: Abram, Franklin, Polly, Lucretia, Daniel W., Hiram, Betsey, and Sarah (Sally).
