Biography

Marshall Barkley

At 17, Marshall was a jockey and once beat the world famous Snapper Garrison. He married Myra Wormington, had 3 children & moved to Ft. Collins, Colorado, to work and continue racing. He found racing was not profitable there so gave it up, spending most of his adult life working on the C A. Bartels ranch "Meadow Brook Farm" in Ft. Collins.

On his 89th birthday, the Fort Collins paper interviewed him. He was quoted as saying he had always voted Republican, had never smoked in his life, joined the IOOF in 1899 and had held all the offices of that organization. His first automobile was a 1919 four-cylinder Buick roadster with a top speed of about 10 miles per hour.
