Biography

1776 Project
Pvt. Claiborne Barksdale served with Charlotte County Militia, Virginia Militia during the American Revolution.

Claiborne Barksdale is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A006163.

Claiborne was born in 1738 in Charlotte County, Virginia, To Thomas and Judith Barksdale.[1]

During the American Revolution he was a Private in the Virginia Militia.

The 1782 Virginia count of Heads of Households names a Claiborne "Barksdill" as a head of Virginia in Halifax County. The household included 5 blacks.[2]

During his life he had two wives. First he married Sarah Goode. His second wife was Mrs. Jane (Morton) Carter.
