They settled in the Bunya Mountain area as mary's sister and husband (Gibson) had selected land outside Dalby, some of the family are still on propertiesout there,.

The family later moved by bullock wagon to take up land at WILEY CREEK, NSW. ( I don't know how Grandfather got on to that.) & bred Hereford cattle. They travelled via Dalby, Toowoomba, Warwick & Stanthorpe, so imagine the trip! Had three children by then, & one Charles Junior was born en route.

Toowoomba Historical Society found that the New South Wales passenger list contained the names of his parents as John & Susan Barlow and the family were from Hertfordshire, I was able to chase them down in census records & found that they had lived at Crook Log, Bushey, Herts[n 1841,51, & 61, though Charles only appeared in 1841 & 51 which indicated that I was on the right track, Then I needed to tie this lot to the Judge family to prove that this was indeed my Charles. I did not get far with the George Barlow / Ann Judge lead & kept searching, I found in BMD a marriage of a John to Susannah Judge in Dec. 1849 at Watford Herts. and ordered a copy of the marriage certificate, On arrival it showed John, widower, 38, with father Moses Barlow & Susannah, spinster 35, father William Judge. Their address was Crook Log, Bushey!!.
Census showed children Emma b.1835, John b.1837, Charles b,1838, Lucy b.1839 & James b. 1842. It looks like John's first wife died before 1841, and James was the son of John & Susannah. They must have decided to tie the knot in 1849. This makes Susannah Charles' step-mother,(or possibly mother depending on when she moved in !!!!) and explains the Judge in his name.
I now need to find details of GGGfather Moses& wife Lucy, & the name etc of John's first wife ( my GGG/mother). I also have Susannah's christening as 1/091811 at Tring, Hertford, with parents William & Mary. Any help in this regard would be appreciated.

Certainly a most interest bit of information!! He could be my Charles as he certainly had good reason to leave the country. He came as an Assisted Immigrant (Ten Pound Poms) as he would have had little money.

If this was him, he mended his ways as he became a respected & successful landholdercattle raiserorchardist here in Stanthorpe.
