Joseph Barlow was born on January 7, 1791^[1] in Heswall, Cheshire and was baptised the following day at St Peter's Church, Heswall with his twin brother Thomas Barlow (1791 - 1864)^[2]. Their parents were Joseph Barlow (1757 - 1814) and Margaret (Hall) Barlow (1750 - ~1791).

In the 1871 census Joseph (age 80) was in Sandon Terrace, Heswall cum Oldfield.^[6]

Joseph died on November 20, 1875 in Heswall aged 85 from debility of age (one year) and dropsy (three months)^[7] and was buried in St Peter's Churchyard, Heswall^[8][9][10].
