Howard was born on the 25th June 1860 in Islington, Middlesex the son of Walter Barnard and Ellen (Rutt) Barnard.[1][2]
1861 Census on the 7th April 1861 Howard was living at 9 Belinda Terrace, Islington, Middlesex with his parents Walter and Ellen.[3]
1871 Census on the 2nd April 1871 Howard was living at 2 Marquess Grove, Islington, Middlesex with his parents Walter and Ellen and his siblings Harry, Stanley, Walter, Lilian and Ellen.[4]
1881 Census on the 3rd April 1881 Howard a silversmith's clerk, was visiting Claremont House, Leahurst Road, Croydon, Surrey, the home of his future parents-in-law Alfred and Sarah Haggis, a sawmill proprietor.[5]Howard married Sarah Ann Haggis in September 1883 and the marriage was registered in the 3rd quarter 1883 in Croydon, Surrey.[6]
1891 Census on the 5th April 1891 Howard a widower and a silversmith's assistant, was living at 367 London Road, Croydon, Surrey with his son Howard, and his widowed father-in-law Alfred Haggis, deputy chairman of the London County Council.[7]
Howard a widower, married Anne E. Edwards and the marriage was registered in the 2nd quarter 1893 in Hendon, Middlesex.[8]
1901 Census on the 31st March 1901 Howard a Professor of Music, was living at 86 Minet Avenue, Willesden, Middlesex with his second wife Ann a parliamentary agent, and his son Howard. Also living there was Edith Glazebrook aged 17 shown as a niece (her mother's maiden name was Edwards).[9]
1911 Census on the 2nd April 1911 Howard a freelance journalist, was living at 18 St Marys Road, Harelsden, Middlesex with his wife Ann and a niece Edith Glazebrook.[10]
In 1928 Michael Faraday attended the unveiling of a bust for Michael Faraday according to the Yorkshire Post and Leeds Intelligencer - Thursday 18th October 1928: Today a bust of the great scientist and philosopher was unveiled …The mayor of Southwark who presided at the unveiling ceremony this afternoon, was accompanied by Aldermen and Councillors, and two descendants of Faraday were present. One was Mr Michael Faraday, the only surviving son of Thomas Armat Faraday, of Clapham, Yorkshire, who was a cousin of the scientist. “The actual relationship” he said “is that my grandfather and Faraday's father were brothers. My people belong to Clapham and those of the scientist belong to Clapham Wood Hall. The other decendant present was Mr Howard Barnard, a grand nephew.[11]
Howard, of died aged 71 on the 6th April 1932 in Willesden, Middlesex.[12]
Probate of Howard's estate, £2374 6s.2d., was subject to probate in London on the 9th June 1932 and passed to his widow Ann Elizabeth Barnard.[13]

Based originally on a Barnard family bible, and unless otherwise sourced, any precise dates are as shown on hand-written notes (pages 22 and 46) compiled about the 11th December 1878 by John Barnard (1797-1880) Barnard-4046, living at 12 Compton Terrace, Canonbury, Middlesex from before 1861 until his death. Also shown, in different handwriting, is one of his children Katherine Barnard (1844-1912) Barnard-4055 living at 12 Highbury Terrace, Islington, Middlesex from before 1911 until her death, and one of his grandchildren Kate Barnard Blaikley (1879-1969) Blaikley-22 living at 5 Canfield Gardens, Hampstead, Middlesex from before 1939 until before her death. These hand-written notes record the Barnard family, and others, commencing with William Barnard (1605-1682) through to a John Barnard, a farmer in 1898, living at Haslingfield, 1¼ miles from Barrington, Cambridgeshire, where Barnard ancestors had lived since 1605. A copy of these notes is in the possession of Trevor Pickup (Pickup-177) and Michael Pickup (Pickup-178).
