In 1540, Elizabeth Barnes married Sir John Rivers, Knight of Chafford, in London, Middlesex, England. Her husband was Lord Mayor of London in 1573 and 1574.

By Sir John Rivers, she is the mother of the following children:

  • Edward Rivers (1540)

  • Elizabeth (Rivers) Howland (1550)
  • Richard Rivers
  • William Rivers

Thomas Potter secondly married dame Elizabeth, Lady Rivers, yet living, late wife of Sir John Rivers, Knight, late lord mayor of the city of London.[1][2][3]

She died in May 1619 in Hadlow, Kent, England.

On May 30, 1619, she was buried next to her first husband at St. Mary in Hadlow, Kent, England, and a mural monument was built for her and her first husband.[4] It still exists at the chancel inside St. Mary.
