Vachel Barnes was the son of Peter Barnes (1707–1759) and Rachel UNKNOWN (1712–~1770).

Vachel had a sister, Patience Barnes (1730–1785).

Vachel married Charity McDougle (17) (born on February 18, 1771 in Maryland; daughter of John McDougle and Charity (DuVall) McDougle) on May 15, 1788 in Fredricks Co., MD.^[1]
